Do it for the next person
Today we live in a busy, quick moving world. If we are fortunate, we go to work every day. More of us are becoming skilled at DIY'ing. From vehicle maintenance, to home maintenance, from gardening, to online purchasing. Nevertheless performing more, and for some of us, never before done skills and responsibilities. We sometimes become tired, distracted, and/or frustrated with our new evolving and growing responsibilities.
Do it for the next person. In everything we do we should keep this thought close.
Do it for the next person. At work, avoid performing the minimum. Look for more to do. Why? Because tomorrow you might be required to pick up the slack for a coworker that may not be able to make it to work. So you are the next person.
Do it for the next person. At home, when dinner is done, clean up, put away the dishes, stow away the leftovers. Why? When you get home from work tomorrow and the family had an unexpected event to attend, or a family emergency scrambles the family in all directions. You are now the next person.
Do it for the next person. When you decide to take on a DIY project to make some out door furniture because the furniture you want is out of stock or unaffordable. Clean up the saw dust and hardware. Stow away the tools and electrical cords. Why? Tomorrow, after a stressful day at work you come home to find something broken in the house. Repairs need to be made immediately and can not wait for someone to do it for you. You are now the next person.
Do it for the next person. While you walk into the gas station to get your cup of coffee and see someone walking in behind you. Open the door and say good morning. They are your neighbor. They are just like you. They have all the problems you have. They have the same concerns as you. In fact they might not be in as good of a place in life as you. That simple act of kindness that you do for the next person, may be the one thing that gets that person through the day. The day that nothing seems to be going right and everything is falling apart around you and the person walking into the gas station that opens the door and says good morning, might just be what you need to get through the day. You are the next person.
Do it for the next person.
YOU ARE THE NEXT PERSON.
